Tyre Safety Month 2024

Tyre Safety Month 2024

Stay Safe on the Road with CCM

As the colder months approach, road conditions are going to change with wet, icy and unpredictable weather. That’s why it’s more important than ever to ensure your tyres are in top condition. At CCM, we’re supporting Tyre Safety Month to help keep you and your family safe on the road.

Why Tyre Safety Matters

Your tyres are the only part of your vehicle that touches the road, and as the weather changes, so do the demands on them. Poorly maintained tyres can increase stopping distances, reduce grip, and lead to unsafe handling – especially in wet or icy conditions.

This October, TyreSafe is running its ‘Caught in the ACT‘ campaign, encouraging all drivers to perform regular tyre checks focusing on Air pressure, Condition and Tread. It’s a simple routine that could save lives.

What is The 'Caught in the ACT' Campaign?

ACT stands for:

  • Air Pressure: under or over inflated tyres can affect your vehicle’s handling and increase fuel consumption. Correct tyre pressure ensures optimal performance.
  • Condition: Tyres can suffer from wear and tear, including cracks, bulges, or punctures. Regularly inspecting your tyres for damage help prevent unexpected blowouts or failures.
  • Tread: The legal minimum tread depth in the UK is 1.6mm, but we recommend checking your tyres regularly and replacing them before they reach this low limit. Good tread depth improves your cars ability to grip the road and significantly reduces stopping distances, particularly in wet conditions.

How Changing Weather Affects Tyre Safety

As we move into autumn, wet roads can reduce tyre grip and increase stopping distances. Worn tyres, especially with insufficient tread, struggle to channel water away, leading to aquaplaning and loss of control. The cold also impacts tyre pressure, meaning it’s vital to check regularly to ensure your tyres are correctly inflated.
