Campervans fall into different MOT categories depending on their weight. At CCM, we carry out Class 4 and Class 7 campervan MOTs, covering the majority of campervans on the road – from smaller van conversions through to larger coachbuilt motorhomes.
Class 4 — vehicles up to 3,000kg design gross weight, including most car-derived and smaller panel van conversions
Class 7 — vehicles between 3,000kg and 3,500kg design gross weight, covering most full-size van-based campervans
Class 7 MOTs are available at our Cranleigh and Gatwick sites. Class 4 testing is available across all three sites. Please note that we cannot test large vans at Ewhurst.
A campervan MOT covers the same fundamental safety systems as a standard vehicle test – brakes, steering, lights, tyres, emissions, bodywork, and visibility – but inspectors are also alert to the additional weight and modifications that campervans carry. Conversions affect handling, braking distances, and structural loading, and these factors are taken into account during the test.
If your campervan has had recent modifications or a new conversion fitted, it’s worth mentioning this when you book, so we can ensure the correct class is applied.
