Minibus Checks - Gatwick & Cranleigh

Regular safety checks are one of the most important obligations a minibus operator carries, and one of the areas where the DVSA takes a particularly close interest. At CCM, we carry out 6- and 10-weekly minibus safety checks at our Cranleigh and Gatwick sites, conducted by qualified MOT testers with the facilities and equipment the DVSA requires.

6- or 10-weekly checks – what’s required?

Safety checks must be carried out at either 6 or 10 weekly intervals, depending on the vehicle and its use. Vehicles 12 years and older must move to the shorter 6-weekly cycle. Each check must cover all elements of the annual MOT test, which is why it’s essential to use a contractor with proper MOT testing facilities and equipment, including a roller brake test and emissions test capability. CCM has 12 qualified MOT testers across the group.

What each safety check must include

The DVSA is clear about what a compliant safety check record looks like. Each inspection must document:

  • Name of owner and operator
  • Date of inspection
  • Vehicle identity (registration mark, make, and model)
  • Mileage reading
  • A full list of all items inspected
  • Details of any defects found
  • Name of the inspector
  • Signed declaration that defects have been repaired and the vehicle is roadworthy

Record keeping

All safety check and daily check records must be retained for a minimum of 15 months. CCM can retain your regular safety check records on your behalf, available to you on request, providing a practical solution for operators who want a clean, documented compliance trail without the administrative overhead.

Planning ahead

The DVSA expects operators to plan safety inspections at least six months in advance, with schedules that allow MOT and service to coincide where possible, reducing downtime and improving efficiency. We’ll work with you to build that schedule and maintain forward bookings across your fleet.

Fixed price schedules

We understand the importance of controlling vehicle costs, particularly for schools, charities, and community operators.

CCM offers fixed pricing for all routine and scheduled minibus work, with account facilities available for schools, colleges, councils, businesses, and charities. For any unforeseen work, we agree an auto-authority budget in advance so repairs can be carried out quickly without unnecessary delays waiting for approval.

A written contract

The DVSA requires operators to hold a formal written contract with their safety inspection supplier.

At CCM, we provide this as standard, with an annual review to ensure the contract continues to meet your needs.
