Alloy Wheel Repairs - Gatwick

Pothole damage is one of the most common causes of alloy wheel problems on UK roads, and one of the most misunderstood.

A cracked or buckled alloy doesn’t automatically mean a new wheel. At CCM Gatwick, our skilled technicians carry out professional alloy wheel repairs using specialist TIG welding equipment, keeping you on the road safely and saving you the considerable cost of replacement.

New alloy wheel rims typically start at £300 and rise sharply from there. A professional repair is a fraction of that – and when it’s done correctly, it restores both the structural integrity and the safety of the wheel. If you’re not sure whether your wheel can be repaired, bring it in and we’ll assess it for free and give you a straightforward quote.

Cracked or buckled – what’s the difference?

The repair process differs depending on the type of damage, and identifying which you’re dealing with is the first step.

Cracked alloy repair process:

  • Remove the wheel from the vehicle
  • Carry out leak checks to identify all leak points
  • Remove the tyre and check its condition
  • Mount the wheel on the balance machine and check for additional damage – buckles may also be present
  • Clean back the crack and open it to allow the weld to fill fully
  • Drill the weld end to assist with flex and stress dissipation
  • Carry out TIG weld to restore structural integrity
  • Grind back to the inner weld and tyre seating bead

Buckled alloy repair:

Buckled wheels are straightened using specialist equipment. As with cracked wheels, the tyre is removed first and the wheel assessed on the balance machine before any work begins.

The welding process

Not all alloy wheel welding is equal. MIG welding with alloy wire – sometimes offered as a cheaper alternative – does not provide a proper repair on alloy wheel rims. At CCM, we’ve invested over £15,000 in professional TIG welding equipment specifically because it’s the only process that delivers a genuinely safe and durable result. Repairing an alloy wheel is a specialist task, and it matters who does it and how.

Cracked and buckled wheels are MOT failures

A damaged alloy isn’t just a cosmetic issue; it’s a safety issue and an MOT failure. Getting it repaired promptly means the wheel is safe to use and your vehicle remains roadworthy.

At our Gatwick site, alloy wheel repairs are available as a while-you-wait service, often completed within the hour. We have free Wi-Fi, refreshments, and a comfortable waiting area – or a courtesy car if you need to get on with your day.
